During this time there is a great spread of automata – small mummies dressed like the nineteenth-century bourgeoisie – that play, move and smoke even as real people. Many of these tools were designed to amaze and astonish guests, such as the beautiful autopiano that can play a piano with just pedaling, reading a perforated cardboard.
